The next meeting of the Division of Earth Sciences was held in the main building of ANAS.
The academician-secretary of the Division, academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, Divisions members, Directors of scientific institutions and organizations, related to Division, and others attended the meeting.
Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov informed the participants about the agenda of the meeting.
Then the Director of the Institute of Geography, academician Ramiz Mammadov made a report on the results of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Institute of Geography in 2019. The scientist said that the studies were carried out within “State Program for the development of industry in Azerbaijan for 2015-2020”, “State Program for the development of Earth remote sensing services in Azerbaijan Republic for 2019-2022”, the Development Strategy “Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future”, “Strategic roadmap for the national economy and main sectors of the economy”, as well as respective research programs recommended by the Presidium of ANAS during current year.
Ramiz Mammadov said that the studies were dedicated to dynamic changes caused by natural and anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems and forecasting problems, the study of geomorphic systems and their natural resource potential, the current state of water resources and the study of mountain flows. It was also noted that the comprehensive study of the Caspian ecosystem, the role of climate factors in climate change and desertification, anthropogenic degradation and restoration of vegetation of flat lands, economic, geographic and demographic problems of the regions were conducted. The scientist said that the climatic boundaries of the arid and semi-arid zones of the country were determined due to the researches, and a corresponding table and map were compiled. Then R.Mammadov noted that the quantitative indicators of the areas of the mudflow zones in the basins of the most flood-prone rivers of the Greater Caucasus were determined.
Academician R.Mammadov said that the results of the conducted researches were published in 1 journal, 1 book, 9 monographs, 3 study guides, 2 textbooks, 4 teaching aids, 3 subject programs and 2 Atlas. 7 of 152 articles of the Institute’s employees were published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database.
The reporter also informed about ICT training in the Institute of Geography this year, about international relations and grant projects of Institute of Geography, works on the training of scientific personnel and others.
After discussions, the report was unanimously approved.
